Peace in the mountains.

July 31, 2008 · 3 Comments

woke up at six here at the cottage yesterday morning. The mist was visible and made magic landscapes like this:

I love getting outside right away, bringing my coffee mug and knitting.

We’ve had a couple of days with intense heat even at this altitude. Bugs of all sorts had to be warded off with sprays and roll-ons.

I brought with me all my dad’s woodcarving from home to put up here at the cottage. It fit in better in this interior than at my house. Here I am hanging up a rug that comes from my great-grandmother’s farm so it might have been woven around 1900. That means the colours must come from nature dyes and that they must have made yarn and dyed it – if not at the farm itself, so at least it’s a great possibility it was done locally. Dad made the carved top for it .

Going up to the cottage

July 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We are getting organized to go up to the mountains, to the cottage, but it is stifling hot outside so things are  going in slow motion around here. The oldest who has been in Marispelet slept until I woke her up at 1.00pm today, myself I slept until 9.45.  Hubby has worked on the preparation for a shed in joining with our garage and he was drenched and dove into the shower when he finished a little while ago. We’ll get there in the course of the day- but who knows excactly when…..

I do know one thing: my knitting is already packed!!

My Hour of the Day

July 27, 2008 · 1 Comment

Is now: only Emma and I in the house. The ohters went to RJUKANBADET for a swim (another good reason to visit my town)

These are the ingredients for a nice, quiet ME- time:

This last picture is my latest daytime reading book( I always have another one by my bedside: A Thousand Splendid Suns, right now) Kate Morton is the author. Seems good so far, in an old-fashioned mystery- genre way..)

Visit my town sometime!

July 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I am helping out at Marispelet these days, the facilities get so stuffy after a few hours, all those people changing into costumes, getting makeup on. I help with the snacks and coffee and the clean-up. We are there from 1.30 until 6:30 pm so you’re pretty beat at the end of it.

Last night I had a cold beer when I got home; unbelievably gooooood! Then a shower and off to a night uptown to meet friends. The pub was so crowded you could harldly move in there. It was almost like the weekend around kjerringsveiven

I right now I’m having some ONLY ME time!!! Don’t happen very often. Only me and Emma in the house. So this is the ingredients for a great hour to myself before going back to help out at Marispelet again this afternoon. This is the last show for this summer, but next year they’ll be back. Plan for a trip to my town around that time next year, people!! We could arrange a knitting gathering around the same time!

Porch, cold beer, good weather…and Cobblestone

July 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

I wrote this lasxt night and thought I had published it. Obviously not, but here it is:

The weather is Summer!! That’s a luxury I breathe in as much as possible..

Tonight we are sitting outside with candles lit, beer, dog, daughter-on and off- waiting for the oldest daughter to come home from Marispelet. We’ve been at the beach today, that is, Hubby was at home cutting hedges in the blazing sun in the meantime.

This is how far I’ve gotten on the Cobblestone project.

Our dog is shedding enough hair that someone could make a sweater outof it , says Hubby (is he living with a knitter or something..?) So Hubby bathes her and brushes her -and is obciously on a mission to get the hair off her this way rather than on the floors- where it drives us up the wall!!!

Although- this dog certainly has her privileges in this house…. Her  daytime favourite sleeping place- a couch from the 40’s

probably not a good thing…

July 20, 2008 · 2 Comments

I think maybe we need to go on MSN in order to talk to each other in this family:

me (laptop from work)

Hubby. Hard to say if it is work or play… He has home office two days a week.

Oldest with Hubby’s previous work laptop.

Youngest with Hubby’s first work laptop.

In addition we have a stationary computer that is upgraded in every way.

Wonder what it is like to have eye contact..?

Good thing we are going to the cottage in August. One TV. One TV channel. The dog will be happy! We will regain some sanity..

The day just whizzed by.. I went grocery shopping, had some lunch with my mother, went home to read the papers- and fell asleep. Useless is what i was until it was time to get off the couch and make supper. My oldest came home from rehearsals before I even got started frying ground beef for nachos..

It’s raining now, dripping off the canopy on the porch. The youngest just got in the door from walking a wet dog. She needs help drying Emma off, the dog wants to play with  the towel!

We are just staying in doing nothing tonight. Watching TV, surfing the net a bit, eating some bad-for-you-chips  and some good-for-you-strawberries  …    and me: I will knit a little.

A morning of better quality

July 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Both Hubby and I woke up at seven, but we went to bed fairly early last night so we had enough sleep.. I woke up with a tension headache like the two previous mornings and my paroxystic headache set in with the first sip of coffe and I had two attacks, one after the other. But now I am better than the two days before, so I am quite content that it seems to have peaked and I might be on the slow slope downwards where I ‘ll experience better days with fewer attacks.

I helped out at the house where Marispelet( the local outdoor play I have mentioned before) has their facilities for sewing, keeping and mending costumes, where they do make up etc.

When I came home Hubby had steaks veggies and potatoes on the barbeque, a wine bottled was opened and there was ice cream for dessert. Lucky me! We were about to go out and meet some friends uptown but they cancelled so we stayed home and watched a film with the girls.

I ended my Blogger-blog with showing the photoes from the walk we did along the Aker river in Oslo. Here are some shots from the last part of our day: We went to the Munch museum

and did a part of the botanical gardens that is located right by the museum.

We were pretty beat after a great day :

Early morning -again!

July 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

What’s going on? I woke up before 6 am again! Am I getting THAT old or what? Mind you – i was ready to fall asleep in the chair at 11pm last night- so maybe i can’t expect more sleep than 7 hours.. I had to take some pills almost right away since my headache set in right away today. Man – this “affliction” is driving me nuts at times. Wonder how it’s going to go when school starts again…

Even though Hubby is home I have been up by myself for an hour now. He is often awake early since he is up before six the mornings he sleeps over at is out-of-town-job. Actually I love spending some time all alone – in complete silence, drinking coffee, listening to my dog snoring (even she thought it was too early for breakfast and a walk!) She barely looks at me when I take a photo of her on “her” couch..

Yesterday was spent at home for the most part. I did some laundry and made some waffles for our aftenoon coffee, but otherwise I was knitting on the porch, putting my woolen sweater on and taking it off as the sun was coming and going. I needed the day doing as little as possible since I had two busy days behind me and my head isn’t good these days. Today I’m on the list for helping out at “Marispelet” in the afternoon.

The last load of laundry yesterday was actually some old, white sheets and some lovely chrochet that I dyed pink. Have planned for it a long time go, thinking I could make bedroom curtains out of it.

By the time Hubby came home and I had gotten chicken wings out of the fridge for him to BBQ, it was raining and he had to wheel the barbeque underneath the canopy in order to get the job done.

My friend, who came home from Japan the night before, came over and we had supper together, walked the dog, and had a good gab and a few good laughs before she went home arond 10pm.

She is always home for a few weeks in summer and around Christmas time. The summer weeks ar , if possible, the best because I’m off work and my mind isn’t trying to juggle as many things as around Christmas.
