My headaches are fewer and farther between now that I’m just staying at home and my day is fairly inactive and shielded from the regular humdrum. It’s nice. I savour every hour of no pain.

But I notice muscles almost cramping in my facial area and /or teeth and forehead as soon as something remotely stressful approaches. A discussion in the family( not even a biggie), someone adressing me by starting a sentence like: “You should… ” or “Do remember to..”  That’s pretty bad reacting so strongly to something so small. It’s not a good sign. But I make sure I don’t allow my thoughts to revolve around negatives, I do pleasant things, I give myself the mental space I need. Hubby says I seem like I got my mind elsewhere these days. I’m right here… I just need to be in a “spaced out “sort of state for a while. Hopefully that’ll fix me right up… And mostly I am not thinking about anything. Maybe about yarn…

Apple peeling galore

September 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

On Friday we got apples from the neighbour’s trees and today I went down to Mom’s place so that she vould help with the peeling and cutting. We usually freeze the wedges so that we can use it for cakes and pies during the winter. That works fine.

Here’s mom peeling

It’s nicer to do it together with someone. Coffee breaks in between, small talk during…

I did this craft last night that I cannot show on the blog. I intend to give it away for a birthday in November, so it’ll just have to wait till after that… :-(

A perfect fall Sunday

September 28, 2008 · 2 Comments

I took the drive to get my daughter at camp. The sun was shining, the radio offered good conversations between interesting people and good music in between..

I’m back and posting while supper is in the oven.

Roast beef, onions, potato wedges and carrots.

The neighbour handed over two bags of apples from their tree yesterday. I peel them, vut them and bag them. Then I freeze them for later occations thatcall for apple pies etc.

For dessert today:

peel and cut apples. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.

make a crumbly dough of oatmeal, some whole-grain flour (fine), sugar, melted butter and raisins if you have any.

Sprinkle it over the apples, add some chopped nuts and a little water.

Bake in the oven for half an hour at medium heat. Serve with vanilla ice cream or custard!

Weekend activities and in-activities

September 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Friday night i spent alone in our house. i don’t think that has ever happened…

My youngest was away at confirmation camp for the weekend. My oldest was at a birthday party. The Hubby was sleeping over in Sweden, on his way home from Germany with his boss.

This is how I spent my evening:

Today my oldest and I went out of town, shopping for clothes. It’s an hour and a half drive to where we wanted to go, so my daughter had fun taking  photoes on the way there.

We went to the big mall and found the clothes we needed.

Here is a rare photo with me in it.

and of course we had a meal.. Followed by sinful-but delicious- treats.

Fall has been so dry and cool that the colours are vibrant some places. Today was a rather warm day, however, up to 18 C!

Here are some shots from our drive back through the woods.

Back home we made lasagne and waited for Hubby who was about two hours behind us. i’m glad he’s home. This is the first business trip this fall and it takes some getting used to after a long period where he is honme for the most part..

it’s getting late. He has crawled into his own bed as opposed to hotel beds- and all I want is to curl up behind his back and go to sleep myself. But you know what; even though we took a long drive today, and walked around a crowded mall for a couple of hours, i haven’t had a single bout of head aches. It was heaven!

There!

Now it’s just the headache left: The pain in the neck of assembling the parts and make it into a decent looking piece of clothing.. (and my actual physical headache, today in the form of a feeling of having an iron band around my forehead)

worked a little on the cobblestone this morning.

..and a little on this sleeve while watching Gilmore Girls this afternoon (man, they talk fast on that show)

There are chestnuts falling from the trees now, cracking open when they hit the ground.

Makes me think of an owl..

I put out some journal pages I had prepped and did a couple of more in order to make sure I had a few to bring along to Rome.

When I got the headaches back, I started worrying about the trip and how it would go. We’ve had so many trips in this family that has gone wrong or things have happened in advance that has given us trouble – even stopped us from being able to go- that I sometimes wonder if we’ve been jinxed. If I started listing it all you would definetly think I was lying through my teeth.. So well keep it at this: enough said already.

I’ll call my doctor tomorrow and get him to write me a letter stating I have been prescribed the medication that I’ll bring. I wouldn’t want any trouble at the airports because of that!

Autumn

September 24, 2008 · 1 Comment

When fall arrives I always miss Canada. The autumn in Ontario is always long, colourful and beatiful. for a few years we liveds in a house where we had pear trees and walnut trees. All the maple trees make even the Norwegian mountain colours seem pale. There are fall fairs, garage sales, Thanksgiving and Halloween. Pies, fruits, comfort foods like stews to be made and big pumpkin patches to visit, quilt shows to marvel at, walks in the woods….the list is endless.

We do have some maple trees here too, though

But there was one thing from here that I missed when i lived there: The sight of  birch tree trunks! I know it sounds weird, but I always liked those three trunks so much. And they probably symbolized Norway for me while living there. In my neighbourhood there was one, one single birch tree, and i used to walk past there often even if it was a bit out of my way. I would touch it too :-)

Which one looks the most miserable? Emma above or me underneath?

This has been me practically every afternoon for the past 5-6 days. If you look at the table I even had a coffee this way! But yesterday I went to see the doctor and i’m now off sick for two weeks and back on the medication I got this spring for the weird headache.

I will take a long walk every day- the dog will like it!! I will read, knit, listen to the radio- and work on getting better at NOT looking at things that needs to be done around the house. It’ll be a good day today even if the head

Here is a few more rounds on the second sleeve. Did it last night so now I’m past the pattern that I had a bit of difficulty positioning.

Journaling.

I prepared this page a while ago. Today I used it for writing.

We heated up some chili for supper and now the coffee is ready. I have a migraine however.. Can’t see properly on the one eye. I better lay around on the couch for a while. But I won’t skip the coffee! No way!
