Monday Muffins
March 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment
is in the making! Both the girls are off from school today. Bill has home office on Monday, too so I was the only one heading out. this morning. Later than usual, mind you, since Monday is the day I start later at school. I came home to a vacuumed home dinner on the table. And as that wasn’t great enough- Kristi has decided to try out a recipe for dark chocolate muffins.
The coffee is ready. And I am. too!!

There’s always room for another project
March 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment
..to postpone the things that are more important! A flanell quilt was started yesterday. Fabric spread, embroidery floss lugged out from the cupboard, sewing machine hauled out, scissors going in random directions, a check on the internet for some instructions.. And a simplistic, naive and soft coloured block was started.
By the way: Are you aware of the amazing quilting artist on the web: Spirit Cloth. This link is to a bag she finished but you can click on her blog title and get to the last posting. She also have another blog called What if, also about her quilting. She never sells, just gives away. It’s pure storytelling with fabrics!!!

There is a lot more stitching to be done, but I’m trying to get everything fastened by machine/hand so I can sit comfortably in my recliner and stitch while watching TV.

Sun Festival- and no sun
March 28, 2009 · 1 Comment
Today it’s the Sun Festival in town. Unfortunaltely it snowed yesterday and things went back to looking wintry instead of springy.

We will watch the parade at 3 pm anyway. The clue is dressing in wool and putting on warm, insulated shoes. The winner of this year’s Sun Prize is Jo Nesbø, the musician/author.

Dog=hair. Happy dog=even more hair!
March 28, 2009 · 1 Comment
Emma is a happy dog these days, but her shedding is abnormal! From one day to another it is highly visible on all the floors that we own a dog! Even in smaller amounts it drives me kinda nuts, and when it is this excessive it’s bound to take up too much time.

Bill came home from his business trip tp China/Corea yesterday and picked up a new dog brush on his drive home from the airport. Today he turned the house (almost) upside-down to get the vacuum cleaner into every nook and cranny. I certainly don’t mind!

Unsynchronized phases of life
March 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Got a surpising telephone on my way home from work yesterday. My friend K was in town with her partner, daughter and granddaughter. I had some errands to run but then I rushed home to a fast supper picked up at the deli counter, I started up the mixer to make batter for waffles and put on the coffee. In the basement I found some toys I figured might be fun for a 14 month old girl. Some dolls and stuffed toys, a dog cage and suitcase for putting things in and taking things out…. not to mention the paper bag itself!

She was the cutest thing ever, and I must admit we had a hard time consentrating on keeping the conversation flowing. We were all too busy watching the little wonder play and “talk ” to us.
Funny how unsynchronized the phases of life can be for people who are the same age. Here I am at the stage where I’m sharing household with two teenage girls and I feel far away from the stage of being a grandmother. Friends my age however have become grandmothers and enjoy it immensely. I obviously have events to look forward to when/if they happen in my life..

I am trying to get this thing is in shape.. and I am NOT optimistic! I am downright starting to dislike the whole knitting project… and this is the end of it. Depressing, really. But I will finish it- and then see how I feel..

There’s been a shift in the weather. Snow is supposed to fall during the night and when I walked Emma tonight the winds were strong and cold! I started a fire when I got home, even.

More art dolls from my students
March 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment
My students are from 11-13 years old and this is their first experience with the sewing machine. I’m impressed with their creativity when it comes to different shapes of their dolls. I try to put stress on being original when we work on a project like this. Nothing is more depressing than trying to make an art project and the kids show little or no signs of being creative. I measure the success of an art project by the enthusiasm the students display and variety of products we end up with as well as the quality of the end result. This has definetly been successful. Ten more students will start their dolls next week..
