The kids at school are making stilts these days. We’ve had a moustrap car race, looks like there’ll be another competition…

Anyone with a rat at home bagged shavings for the cage!

I love you, you love me. We’re a happy family. (Song from “Barney”, a kid’s show the girls used to watch when they were little)

Hom from work, by myself in the house as usual on Tuesdays, except the Royal Dogness, but she bugs me until I serve her supper and then she goes back to sleep, just to wake up an hour or two later to start bugging for a walk..
I’m having a coffee before making supper, but the first thing I did was to whip cream, whip egg yolks and sugar, mix it all and freeze. Voila, homemade ice cream for the party next week. And I started a load of laundry. I have to drag my butt out of the recliner soon. Gotta make supper and vacuum. I’m opting to get some weaving in tonight, too..
Here are two journal pages. One done and one prepped for writing.

My sister and I have had a lot of sms going back and forth today and yesterday because my niece ended up getting hospitalized due to stomach pains that startet on the weekend. They have examined her in every way. She is coming home again today, and they didn’t find anything severe, but still we were all worried- and we won’t completely relax until she feels improvement herself using the medication she got. I tooks some shots this morning after it rained overnight, but I can’t find my camera cord. Probably upstairs. Too relaxed to get out of this comfy chair. I’ll do t later.

It’s raining out. I laid in bed this morning and the balcony door in the bedroon upstairs is ajar during the night now that it’s spring. I could hear that the cars were driving on a wet road. And the smell of spring! Everything is going to explode in green now. I love this season.
I start work later on Mondays, so I have time for a blog post, a shower and I’m stopping in at Mom’s to return the moss machine before heading to school.
I’m not touching a knitting needle these days, but I did a little bit of stitching on the flanell quilt last night when Bill and I watched “Burn after reading” last night. Funny movie! The girls went to the movie theatre to see “Slumdog Millionaire”- obciously a very strong movie that made an impression on them.
In my journal I have this thing about faces now… The first two are unfinished. (Maybe the first one is me sick and tired of cooking?
) The old man isn’t finished either. There’s text I haven’t had time to finish

This one I finished drawing. Don’t know if I want to give it a colour wash later

I’m getting to a very definite end of patience with cooking. I have spent hours and hours – if you put it together – on cooking and baking for this upcoming party. And today I attended church with a following coffee and cake- thing there, and I have worked on the baby book that I have yeat a few pages to do while frying mini meatballs and two baking sheets of merengue. I’m starting to long for a regular weekend of no plans. I know they are there ..in the near future …waiting for me. Maybe one of those with a full Sunday on the porch with coffee, a book, some knitting, a beer, barbeque. I am daydreaming…

Bill has done some more cleaning up in the yard , we have tended to a climbing rose bush that had taken a beating and been torn off the wall when ice and snow fell off the roof in March, he has cut boards and made a frame for a gate for the porch so we can let Emma out there unattended, and Kristi has painted it.

We are at now at the stage in our life when the parents are up long before the kids in the house. I can remember a time when I would drink coffee at five thirty on Sundays trying to keep my toddler quiet so the rest of the family could sleep unti they woke up by themselves. now she is going on 15. And I have grown into every stage of our lives, ready and willing. Sometimes I hear about parents that don’t want their kids to grow up so fast. I’m enjoying this stage. As I did with the previous ones. I’m sure I’ll find the coming ones the same.

It’s a nice weekend weatherwise. In other ways, too. We worked towards the party next weekend, Bill in the garden, getting moss out of the lawn, putting tiles back on the roof since the wind had taken some, taking my old garden swing apart. Some guys at his workplace are going to sandblast and spraypaint. That’ll be so cool. I love that oldfashioned swing!!

I was typing up the speech, the songs and making meatballs, shopping.. Mom came over for a barbeque in the evening. Bill cooked steaks, baked potatoes and skewers with mushrooms, peppers and onions. i prepared some asparagus and Kristi made a salad.
Today we have to attend church since the kids are supposed to participate by reading things they have worked on during confirmation classes.

I was up making another song for the confirmation and looking over my speech. Today I plan to type it on the computer , dig out some photoes to add to the song copies and I have Carly’s scrap book to finish. We never used the traditional baby books, instead they each have a big scrapbook. Alas the books were never filled out popely, I would just stick loose pictures and notes about their development in between the pages. So now I have to finish what I have procratinated for so long. if there is time I’ll do some more cooking for the party too…

I can sit here in my comfy chair and make necessary lists for next weekend’s confirmation party..
Mom and I went shopping this afternoon. It was as if it was a midsummer day out there, so when I returned home around five Bill served me cold white wine, started the barbeque and we ate on the porch for the first time this season. Coffee, chokolate.. I’m all Friday-tuckered-out and can do no nothing productive now. But I can make lists. Buffet lists, cake list, shopping list, chore list… I know i’m going to need it as the event approaches!
I got a new book at the library yesterday. Haven’t started it yet, but I’m hoping its good:
Here is a link to the Amazon where you can look inside the book. I was recommended on Oprah’s book club, and it’s gotten good reviews elsewhere too. it’s a New York Times bestseller.

The kids at school have spent a good while constructing cars
that were supposed to get moving using the spring and some rope.

Today was the big Race. Some last minute adjustments were made:

There were- of course- different models, all with new names that we had never heard of!

There were distinguished chauffeurs, I’ll have you know! Like this one:

Ready…..

Set….

GO!

And the winners OF THE FIRST HEAT:

The losers of the first heat took it extremely well:

THE TEAM WHO WON THE FINAL HEAT:
